How To Alter The Network Adapter Speed To Work With The Network Loopback Adapter

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide instructions on setting the network adapter speed within Windows in order to utilize the Network External Loopback Test and Network Loopback adapter.

Description

Note: The network adapter must be set to 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps in order to receive accurate results for the Network External Loopback Test in Service Center for Windows.

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Select Network Connections.
    1. In Windows XP, click Network Connections.
    2. In Windows Vista or Windows 7, access the Start menu, and use the search box to find Network Connections.
    3. In the Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 Modern UI move the mouse to the right hand side of the UI, click the Search Icon, Select the Settings Tile, and use the search box to find Network Connections.
  3. Right click the connection and click ‘Properties’.
  4. Click the ‘Configure…’ button.
  5. On the ‘Advanced’ tab, change the value of the Speed & Duplex property to 10 ot 100 Mbps with Half or Full Duplex.
  6. Click ‘OK’ and then run the test.
